Why is staff training seen as a waste of time?
Few companies go beyond basic mandatory training for safety or work tools; few entrepreneurs know how to access inter-professional funds. Only 25% of companies offer training to young people and new recruits, and an even smaller percentage offer training and refresher courses to employees who have been in the company for some time.
The fear of training people who might one day sell themselves to competitors prevents from seeing how training can instead be an added value for belonging to an organization, a useful investment to retain employees.
In other situations, the choice is for “famous” paths for marketing purposes only, to link the name of the company to that of a famous educational institution. Either training is offered only to people at the highest levels, to not hinder working time, so that the received training does not match with the position, generating disinterest or, in the absence of an effective system of training and / or internal communication, inability to benefit from a multiplier effect within the organization.
Training cannot be based solely on techniques and tools for improving performance, but must also concern human resources management, communication, work on the personal characteristics of employees, the development of aptitudes and soft skills. Efficient business processes and trained staff allow the company to better deal with internal and external difficulties, with the possibility to rely on the motivation and attachment of employees.
